We support people, companies, and regions that want to shape their own energy future. Each of these journeys is different, and we accompany them with suitable systems, open-minded thinking, and space for individual solutions. As an independent family-owned company, we remain grounded and authentic. We act at eye level, take responsibility, and think ahead – with courage, curiosity, and confidence in the future.
In this way, we shape energy not only from a technical perspective, but from a human one: reliable, forward-thinking, and aligned with sustainability and economic efficiency. This self-understanding shapes our actions, our locations, and our history.
Our Story
The two Brothers Franz-Josef and Stefan Feilmeier grew up in Lower Bavaria – in a family home with a farming business and its own storage facility, where sustainability and responsibility were simply part of everyday life. It was here that the idea of approaching energy in a cleaner and more regional way took root early on.
Franz-Josef Feilmeier, founder and CEO, studied Technical Business Administration at TH Deggendorf. A six-month stay in China in 2005 opened his eyes to large-scale e-mobility. In Hamburg, he deepened his expertise through a thesis on solar technology and subsequently gained experience building solar cell factories – before returning home to actively drive the energy transition forward himself.
Stefan Feilmeier, computer scientist and Deputy CEO, contributes technical expertise and digital solutions to the company. Since its founding, he has also served as the first chairman of the OpenEMS Association e.V. – the organization behind the world’s leading open-source energy management system, OpenEMS. Together, the brothers combine innovation with down-to-earth values – turning conviction into reality: clean energy for a sustainable future.
Our Journey
During this early phase, a vision grows into a company committed to actively shaping the energy transition. The first FENECON energy storage systems are developed in the barn of the family farm, laying the foundation for the initial market-defining solutions. Through cooperation with a leading international battery cell manufacturer and the launch of one of the first commercially ready commercial storage systems in Europe, FENECON achieves important milestones at an early stage.
Despite setbacks — including the devastating 2013 floods that destroyed the warehouse and vehicle fleet — the team continues to grow, rebuilds everything, and develops the FENECON Energy Management System (FEMS). This creates the technological foundation on which all future systems are built.
These years are shaped by openness, technological responsibility, and growing reach. OpenEMS — an independent open-source project for manufacturer-independent energy management — is founded, with Stefan Feilmeier among its founding members. At the same time, the company intensifies its use of second-life vehicle batteries and continues to expand its product portfolio.
New locations are established, the team grows, and in 2019, FENECON is recognized as an impact-driven company. With the investment of the eco-social fund BonVenture, the mission gains additional support. In 2020, revenue doubles due to strong demand — a clear sign that openness and scalability are defining the future of energy storage.
FENECON enters a phase of dynamic growth. In 2021, FERESTO GmbH is founded, offering rental storage solutions for flexible energy applications. New products in the Home, Commercial, and Industrial segments expand the portfolio and significantly increase the company’s overall capabilities.
With the Iggensbach facility — one of the most advanced production sites for battery storage systems in Europe — as well as new locations in Vilshofen/Albersdorf and Deggendorf, capacities and structures are consistently expanded and consolidated. The team grows substantially and continues to drive innovation in energy management and storage architecture.
Major awards underline this progress: the ees Award, the EM Power Award, the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year including the audience prize, the Bavarian SME Award, and finally the historic TOP 100 Innovator hat-trick (2023–2025).
The ISO 9001 certification across all locations marks another important milestone — a strong signal of quality, reliability, and long-term commitment to a sustainable energy future.
In the future, we will continue to accompany our customers throughout their entire energy journey, consistently focusing on quality and service leadership. As a leading German manufacturer, we continuously strengthen value creation in Germany while simultaneously driving our internationalization in Europe and the USA.
