E-Mobility with FENECON

Energy independence in times of global uncertainty begins at home

Independence from international crises and volatile energy markets does not begin on the global stage—it starts in your own home. Anyone who has already installed a photovoltaic (PV) system combined with an energy storage system knows the reassuring feeling: the sun powers everyday life, the storage system preserves energy for the night, and—when needed—the system automatically optimizes electricity consumption via Time-of-Use Tariffs at the most cost-effective times.

However, the picture is only complete once your electric vehicle becomes part of this system. Your self-generated PV electricity is directed exactly where it is needed—without detours via the public grid or reliance on fossil fuels. This not only reduces costs but also protects the environment and actively contributes to grid stability.

An open system for unlimited possibilities

At FENECON, the open-source philosophy is at the core of everything we do, brought to life through OpenEMS. This openness is our commitment to keeping the system flexible. For us, independence means not being tied to a single manufacturer. We continuously integrate additional partners into our open energy management system; however, the depth of integration often depends on the level of collaboration with each respective manufacturer. With established partners such as KEBA and Hardy Barth, we work alongside pioneers who help unlock the full potential of e-mobility as part of our award-winning energy management system.

A clear philosophy plays a decisive role: invest once, benefit for a lifetime. We deliberately avoid subscription models. There are no hidden costs for updates. Control remains permanently in your hands—and on servers located in Germany.

The path to intelligent charging infrastructure

Anyone transitioning to e-mobility should view this step as an upgrade of the entire energy system. The following roadmap provides guidance:

  • Choosing the right hardware: Regardless of the charging station (wallbox), it is not only the charging power that matters but also communication capability. Only then can your electric vehicle become a fully integrated part of your intelligent energy system.

  • Compatibility check: Before installation, we recommend consulting the FENECON e-mobility documentation. This overview clearly outlines which charging stations are supported and whether integration enables active control (write access) or transparent monitoring (read access only).

  • System intelligence – the right FEMS app: Once the hardware is installed, the FENECON Energy Management System (FEMS) takes over as the “conductor.” Control is handled via dedicated apps, available as one-time purchases:
    • FEMS App “AC-Charging Station”: The optimal solution for smart homes. The PV system, energy storage system and charging technology are seamlessly integrated. An AI-supported charging plan ensures that the electric vehicle is always charged when excess energy is available.
    • FEMS App “AC-Charging Station - reading”: Existing hardware is not excluded but integrated. Without interfering with existing systems, this app provides full transparency of energy flows.
    • FEMS App “Multi-Charging Point Management ”: For growing demand—such as in multi-family homes or small businesses—this app coordinates between two and eight charging points, smoothing peak loads and optimizing grid connection capacity.
    • FEMS App “DC-Charging Station”: Where high charging speeds are required, DC charging stations are precisely integrated. Manufacturers such as Alpitronic are part of this ecosystem.
    • FEMS App “Charging Park”: The solution for complex infrastructures, ensuring that even entire vehicle fleets maintain a high degree of energy autonomy.

The energy bridge: independence in winter

What happens when days become shorter and PV generation declines? This is where the true strength of an intelligent energy management system becomes evident. The FEMS App “Time-of-Use Tariff” and the use of time-variable grid charges open up new pathways to independence.

During the winter months, FEMS increasingly takes on the role of a market observer. It not only leverages favorable exchange prices from Time-of-Use Tariffs but also incorporates time-variable grid charges into its charging strategy. Electric vehicles are preferably charged when electricity prices are low and grid charges reach their lowest point—such as during windy nights. Instead of passively consuming expensive electricity, the system actively “buys when it makes economic sense.”

In this way, the electric vehicle is powered not only by solar energy in summer but also behaves economically and independently of rigid pricing structures when solar generation is low.

A journey worth taking

Today, choosing e-mobility goes far beyond an environmental decision. It is a logical step toward maximizing the economic value of your own battery system. When the sun shines, energy flows directly from the roof into the electric vehicle; when winter reduces generation, intelligent tariffs and optimized gridcharges ensure balance.

The result is a perfectly coordinated interaction of hardware and intelligent software that firmly integrates e-mobility into everyday residential and commercial applications—creating true freedom. What remains is the reassuring feeling of staying in control of your own energy supply—today, tomorrow, and in the future.
