As a medium-sized, family-owned company, the wire manufacturing plant “Drahtwerk Wilhelm Gutmann GmbH“ is committed to economically viable and future-oriented solutions. Although a photovoltaic system was already in place, its full potential could not be realized. Due to regular curtailment by the local grid operator, the system was required to reduce its output—particularly during peak production hours. At the same time, electricity was being drawn from the public grid, even though sufficient solar energy was actually being generated on site.
In order to increase the self-consumption rate and improve the overall cost efficiency of the PV system, a battery storage solution was sought. The objective was to store surplus solar energy, compensate for grid restrictions, and use the self-generated electricity precisely when it is needed in operations.
